Dr. Shantella Sherman is an award-winning historian, journalist, and publisher of Acumen Magazine, a quarterly magazine that examines eugenics in popular culture and everyday life. With more than 30 years as a writer and editor with organizations including Dateline NBC, The Washington Informer, The AFRO, Essence, and The Crisis magazine, Sherman currently trains high school and college students at The Acumen Group on the tenets, techniques, and disciplines of journalism without borders and within both traditional and new media. Sherman also offers both history and journalism courses each May and October in London, Manchester, and Amsterdam on “Tropes of Black Masculinity,” “Colorism among Black American & British Women,” and “Black Film / TV Content Analyses”. Sherman is the author of In Search of Purity: Popular Eugenics and Racial Uplift among New Negroes 1915-1935 (2014) and Pop Eu: Popular Eugenics in Television & Film (2019).
